Sæmundur Sæmundsson, CEO of EFLA, reflects on 2024 with pride, describing it as a year marked by significant achievements, diverse projects, and exceptional company employee contributions. EFLA's operations flourished in Iceland and across its international subsidiaries, further solidifying its position as a leader in all its markets.
A Year of Growth and Milestones
Throughout 2024, EFLA’s employees tackled numerous challenging and exciting projects, showcasing their versatility and expertise. Among these were initiatives related to aquaculture, an industry EFLA has been preparing to support for years. Other notable projects included ongoing supervision for the New Landspítali Hospital's construction, Coda Terminal's development, preparations for the Sundabraut highway, and work on the Fossvogur Bridge. We got many new energy-transmission projects in several markets. Additionally, EFLA was actively involved in various geothermal pool projects across Iceland and contributed to disaster response efforts on the Reykjanes Peninsula.
"The work done in response to the natural disasters in Reykjanes has been nothing short of heroic," says Sæmundur. "Our employees and others have achieved remarkable feats under conditions unparalleled in Icelandic history—and beyond."
EFLA also reached new heights in workforce growth, now employing approximately 430 people in Iceland, its highest number to date. The company's subsidiaries expanded internationally, with around 120 employees working across these operations. With over 3,000 projects undertaken in 2024, the diversity of EFLA's portfolio was more incredible than ever.
Global Presence and Expertise
EFLA made significant strides in energy transmission, securing major contracts in Sweden, Norway, Poland, and France. "We've established a strong foothold in these markets and anticipate continued growth in the coming years," Sæmundur notes.
Aquaculture projects were another area of focus, reflecting EFLA's commitment to supporting the rapid development of this burgeoning industry.
However, the CEO highlights the role of EFLA's employees as the key to its success. "The solidarity, energy, and joy that define our team are extraordinary," says Sæmundur. "Success in a business like ours isn't guaranteed—it requires constant effort to secure projects, acquire new knowledge, and develop innovative and sustainable solutions. Our employees have excelled on all fronts."
Looking Ahead to 2025
EFLA prepares for another exciting year as it looks to the future. "We aim to continue being a model knowledge company and a pioneer in addressing critical societal challenges," Sæmundur says. Goals for 2025 include maintaining growth, enhancing environmentally friendly solutions, and evolving services to meet the needs of both today and tomorrow.
Sæmundur offers heartfelt gratitude to clients and employees: "I wish you all a joyful holiday season and sincerely thank you for your collaboration in 2024. I look forward to an exciting and rewarding 2025 alongside you as we embrace new challenges and opportunities together."
