EFLA supervises tunnelling in Northwestern Iceland

A new road tunnel that connects the towns of Ísafjörður and Bolungarvík was opened to traffic on September 25th, after a two-year-long construction period.

The two-lane tunnel is 5.4 kilometres long and about 8 meters wide with safety measures, lighting and air conditiong according to current standards.

Contractors were from Iceland and Switzerland, and EFLA supervised the construction in cooperation with the Icelandic firm Geotek. One of the firms that now constitute EFLA participated in the design team (RTS- Raftæknistofan).
