Two employees of the Fire and Risk service division of EFLA consulting engineers, Atli Rutur Thorsteinsson and Bodvar Tomasson, recently presented a new research paper titled „Performance-Based Fire Safety Design of Cold Storages". The paper was presented at SFPE's (Society of Fire Protection Engineers) 11th International Conference on Performance-Based Codes and Fire Safety Design Methods. This is the largest conference of its category in the world, which this time was held in Warsaw, Poland.

The conference covered state of the art methods, regulations, standards, case studies and research regarding fire safety. For the last two decades, these conferences have been at the forefront of innovation and research into the field of fire safety engineering. EFLA's paper presented a theoretical approach to the fire safety design of cold storages and the use of fire- and smoke spread simulations to determine the need for fire protection. The calculations and methods presented further explain the complicated fire dynamics and fire loads associated with cold storage environments. The paper illustrated how advanced simulations and design methods can be used to limit construction costs and demonstrate clearly the available safety for people, property and first responders. Furthermore, EFLA emphasised the need for further research and testing regarding this topic.

Research and theoretical studies are important aspects of EFLA's work, to further ensure that EFLA always provides optimized fire safety solutions based on state-of-the-art knowledge and design methods.
