Data centres and server farms come in all shapes, forms and sizes. To date, those in Iceland have been designed according to the needs of the local market, and as a result have been very small in global terms.
This is rapidly changing, however, as international operators and investors become increasingly aware of the country‘s huge potential in this highly specialised, energy-intensive field, particularly in terms of ready access to reliable supplies of cheap green energy and excellent cooling capabilities. As average temperatures and humidity are very low, operating costs due to energy significantly much lower than in most other countries, and cold air costs nothing.
At the same time, Iceland enjoys the added benefit of having a fibre-optic communications network covering the whole country, with excellent connections to Europe and the US.
Several years’ experience in the design of data centres and related facilities in Iceland have provided EFLA with the full range of specialised skills and expertise that can only come from an intimate working knowledge of local conditions that we share with every client.
The company‘s team of experts provides state-of-the-art consulting services on all aspects of data centre and server farm design and operation, including energy acquisition, environmental issues, fibre-optic networks, cooling, telecommunications and security, as well as project management and supervision.
Regardless of the size or scale of the project, EFLA provides a complete range of integrated design and construction solutions, all of which are fully compliant with the most stringent international standards, including those laid out by The Uptime Institute and TIA-942.
